Events - Tennis

From 1989 to 1997, Procam International was involved with eight major Tennis Tournaments, all conducted, promoted and organised under one roof.

i) THE STANDARD CHARTERED SUMMER CLASSIC TENNIS TOURNAMENT 1989-1992

This tournament marked the birth of professionalism at the highest level on the Indian Tennis scene. For the first time, a complete 5-star hospitality experience with accommodation and transportation was provided to the players by Procam International, along with a substantial increase in prize money for Indian players. The year 1991 witnessed the birth of the Indian Open concept, which carried the highest number of National Circuit points and prize money. In 1992, the luxurious Goa Renaissance Resort added lifestyle to this 4.84-lakh-prize money event. It was India's premier Tennis event and was telecast live nationally by Doordarshan.


ii) NEC WORLD YOUTH CUP TENNIS 1991

The All India Tennis Association awarded this prestigious event to Procam International, which saw boys and girls from 15 nations in the Asian-Australasian Zone participating. The Indian boys and girls qualifying for the World Group further enhanced the status of the event in India.

iii) GREEN GOLD FEDERATION CUP TENNIS - 1995 (Oceania - Australasia Qualifying)

The Federation Cup for women is the equivalent of the Davis Cup for men. In 1995, seven nations participated in the event, which it was successfully conducted by Procam International..


iv) ATP CHALLENGER TENNIS 1995 & 1997

This event ushered in the return of ATP tennis to India after a gap of 16 years. What made it noteworthy was the USD 75,000 prize money that was won. Becoming a feted event, the tournament offered its participants 5-Star hospitality. Gulf Oil and The Famous Grouse sponsored the event in the years 1995 and 1997 respectively. Some of the greats to participate in the events were Byron Black, Jim Pugh, Leander Paes, and Mahesh Bhupati, among others.
