This notable event was organised at a time when cricket action was bleak for the Indian national team following the England tour.
We seized this opportunity and succeeded in drawing the following international cricketing greats to the tournament: Kapil Dev, Sachin Tendulkar, Ravi Shastri, Mohammed Azharuddin, Gordon Greenidge, Carl Hooper, Desmond Haynes, Malcolm Marshall, Arjuna Ranatunga, Aravinda de Silva, Phillip DeFreitas, Neil Fairbrother, Richard Hadlee, Lance Cairns, Imran Khan, Mudassar Nazar, Merv Hughes and Steve Waugh.
The tournament, was telecast on ESPN and received astounding attention owing to the victory of the Sachin Tendulkar-Kapil Dev duo.
Acting on Australian Rugby Union footballer Nick Farr-Jones’ suggestion, Procam enthusiastically produced gold guineas engraved featuring Sachin Tendulkar’s head. Over 10,000 of the 24 carat, quarter ounce commemorative coins, minted by the Societe Generale of Paris, were sold to the legendary cricketer’s admirers. A cricketing first, engraved coins of a sportsperson were created.
Procam also organized the All India Inter Schools Cricket Tournament between 1996 and 2014, understood to be the biggest Under-15 school tournament in the world. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) lent its full support to the initiative. The programme held in 12 centres - namely Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Delhi, Gujarat, Hyderabad, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Mumbai, Punjab, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal - covered over 75 districts and cities with a whopping participation from over 1,000 schools. Ishant Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, Robin Uthappa, Manish Pandey and Sarfaraz Khan were brought to the limelight through this tournament.
